(UGLY FEAR OR BEST DEFENSE?)
A concert installation by Schorsch Kamerun after Fritz Lang and Thea von Harbou
“The murderers are among us” was the working title of Fritz Lang’s famous 1931 film “M.” It reflects the ambivalence with which Lang and Thea von Harbou portray the hunt for the serial killer Hans Beckert. The actual leading role is played by the deeply unsettled metropolis, whose population is marked by the experiences of war and the world economic crisis. In the adaptation by the musician and theatremaker Schorsch Kamerun (The Golden Lemons), this relationship is reversed and the film becomes a concert installation, the material a foil of the present.
In a co-production with the Munich Biennale, the BR radio play production “M (1) – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder (Wer hat Angst vor was eigentlich?)”, which premiered in May 2020, and the film preview “M (2) – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder (Wem nützt welcher Schrecken? )” in July 2020 now the concert installation and completes this audio, film and music theatre triptych.
Residenztheater and the Munich Biennale regret that with the postponement of the rehearsals planned for May 2020 due to the corona pandemic, the intended collaboration with Schorsch Kamerun and Cathy van Eck could not take place.
