Jurgen Kolb is a freelance lighting designer and has been working in the field of lighting for theatre, opera and urban projects since 1995, initially working with lighting designer Ulrich Schneider on productions by directors Christoph Marthaler, Frank Castorf and Christoph Schlingensiefs and then stage designer Anna Viebrockbe before moving to the Dutch Opera in 1999. There he got to know the working methods of the lighting designers Jean Kalman, Wolfgang Göbbel, Peter van Praat and David Finnkenn and organized as her assistant revivals of productions of Willy Decker and Robert Carsenan opera houses in Barcelona, Bilbao, London, Madrid, Nice, Paris, Oviedo, and Toronto. back in Germany as lighting master and lighting designer at the Munich Kammerspiele and later at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus he designed the lighting for theatre productions by Susanne Kennedy, Martin Kušej, Armin Petras, Thomas Schmaußer, Meg Stuart, Johan Simons, Dries Verhoeven and Roger Vontobel. Since 2015 Jurgen, who is mainly a freelance lighting designer, has been working regularly with directors and choreographers such as Karen Breece, Christian Brey, Guy Joostens, Susanne Kennedy, John Maloney, Milo Rau, Pierre Rigal, Meg Stuart, the Orchestra Kaleidoskop Berlin, Chien-Hao Chang, the Tainan Ensemble and Cloud Gate 2 in Taiwan. Jurgen lives near Aschaffenburg.
