Jörn Peter Hiekel

After studying musicology and double bass, Jörn Peter Hiekel worked first as an editor and author for the publishing house Breitkopf & Härtel, and also for various media (e.g., the newspaper “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung“). Since 2003 he has been a professor of musicology and director of the Institute for New Music at the Dresden College of Music, where he teaches and conducts research. He was a lecturer at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse for a very long time, and he has been on the boards of the Institute for New Music and the Institute for Musical Teaching and Learning in Darmstadt since 2004. Since 2009 he has also been a lecturer at the Zurich University of the Arts and a member of the Sächsische Akademie der Künste. He has published numerous books, in particular on 20th and 21st century music: most recently “Bernd Alois Zimmermann in his time“ (Laaber Verlag 2019). In 2015 he received the Saxon Teaching Award, and in 2019 the “Happy New Ears“ Prize for contemporary music journalism.
