Ebru Tasdemir

Ebru Tasdemir was born in 1973 in Berlin. Her parents came to Germany from Turkey as so-called “guest workers.“ She studied journalism and Turkology at the Freie Universität Berlin, and during her studies she worked as an interpreter, translator, and freelance radio journalist. In 2014 she published her book “Ein ´Turkish´ Sommer in Berlin“ (“A ´Turkish´ Summer in Berlin“) (Orlanda Verlag). For “Hate Poetry,“ an anti-racist reading performance of hate mails, in 2014 she and the other founding members received the “Journalists of the Year“ prize in the category “Special Award.“ As an editor she supported the German-Turkish news platform “taz.gazete“ of the German newspaper taz. Tasdemir is involved in the New German Media Makers, an association of journalists with international roots. She currently is working as a speaker, presenter, and author, and she writes regular columns for taz (“The Red Thread“) and for the radio broadcast DLF Kultur (“Political Features“).
