Thomas Köck was born in 1986 in Steyr, Upper Austria. He socialized through music, and he studied philosophy in Vienna as well as film and writing for the stage at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK). He worked at theatercombinat wien, was invited to Berlinale Talents with a documentary film project about Beirut, was an in-house author at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, he blogs with colleagues on nazisundgoldmund.net against the right-wing movement, and he developed concertante readymades in collaboration with Andreas Spechtl under the label ghostdance. He has won several awards for his theater texts, including in 2018 the literary award “Text & Sprache“ from the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft; in 2018 and 2019 the Mülheim Dramatikerpreis; and most recently the Audience Award from the Mülheimer Theatertage NRW in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
