Born in 1963 in Timmendorfer Strand, Germany, he is a founding member of and singer in the Hamburg band “Die Goldenen Zitronen“ (“The Golden Lemons“). Together with Rocko Schamoni he founded the “Golden Poodle Club“ in Hamburg. He has been working as a theater director and author since 2000. Kamerun directed productions at Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg; Schauspielhaus Zürich; Kammerspiele in Munich; Volksbühne Berlin; Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus; Wiener Festwochen; Schauspiel Stuttgart; Bayerische Staatsoper; Ruhrtriennale; and Theater Basel. In 2007 he received the radio play award from blind war veterans for his Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln radio play “Ein Menschenbild, das in seiner Summe null ergibt“ (“A Human Image That Equals the Sum of Zero in Its Total“). In 2010/2011 he was a visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. His novel “Die Jugend ist die schönste Zeit des Lebens“ (“Youth is the most beautiful time of life“) was published in 2016.
