Dietmar Wiesner

Dietmar Wiesner lives and works in Frankfurt. As a cofounder and flutist of the Ensemble Modern he works with the most important composers worldwide. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as, among others, the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden, and the Scottish BBC Orchestra Glasgow. He recorded the CD “Solo“ with Karlheinz Stockhausen. In 2010 his artist portrait CD “Ghibli“ was released by Ensemble Modern Medien. He has worked regularly as a composer for international music theater productions at, among others, Comédie-Francaise in Paris, and Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. In 1994 he cofounded the composer group HCD Productions, which won the Prix Italia in 1999 for their production “Denotation Babel.“ He was awarded the “German Critics´ Prize“ for the radio play “Haus aus Stimmen“ (“House of Voices“). Since 2005 Dietmar Wiesner has been a lecturer at the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) and the Frankfurt Music Academy. Since 2007 he has been a regular lecturer and artistic director of the education projects “lautstark“ at the Musikfestival Klangspuren in Schwaz, Austria; “Zukunft @ Bphil“ of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He has also been the artistic director of international master classes at, among others, the Tokyo Wondersite Festival in Japan. The radio opera “Bunyah,“ created in collaboration with Cathy Milliken, was awarded the Prix Italia. In 2019 Dietmar Wiesner was the head artistic director of the project “coin toss“ in the city of Hall in Tyrol, Austria, a participatory large-scale project as part of the cycle “Die sieben Leben des Maximilian“ (“The Seven Lives of Maximilian“) financed by the State of Tyrol.
