Cordula Bürgi

\”The ensemble sound that I envision is composed of the voices of exceptionally trained singers, who are capable through the power of their talent and musicality to perform music, and above all chamber music.\”
Cordula Bürgi

Cordula Bürgi was born in Switzerland and received her first music lessons when she was 7 years old. This was followed by years of training, training to play the violin under Daniel Dodds at the Lucerne School of Music; conducting under Raphael Immoos; vocals under Hansjürg Rickenbacher; and music education at the Academy of Music in Basel. Her career as a musician was influenced heavily by her vocal lessons under Douglas Hines in Vienna; her internship in Gregorian performance practices under Professor Cornelius Pouderoijen; and by attending a master class in conducting taught by Pierre Boulez. In addition to her music training, Cordula Bürgi graduated with a degree in cultural administration from the University of Zurich (UZH).
From 1999 – 2008 she was the musical director of the girls\’ choir and choir school Mädchenkantorei Basel, and she was the director of the school from 2008 – 2014.

Numerous productions, including works at Staatsoper unter den Linden Berlin (\”Violetter Schnee\” [\”Violet Snow\”], an opera by Beat Furrer); Theater Basel; Oper Graz; and with the SWR Vokalensemble round off her work experiences as a conductor.

\”I sensed a strong necessity to establish a vocal ensemble that gives me the opportunity to explore the grand vocal music that is rarely or not at all performed in Austria.\”

In 2016 Cordula Bürgi founded the vocal ensemble \”C A N T A N D O ADMONT,\” which specializes in early music and new music, and can already look back on numerous concerts at renowned festivals, such as – just to name a few – the Salzburg Festival; Bayreuth Festival; Klangspuren Schwaz; Wien Modern; and the famous Teatro Colón.
